Building My Office - Scripting

I have attempted to add some sort of interactive element to my office by scripting certain objects in my office to perform different things. Scripting, learning to perform basic scripting on Second Life and searching for scripts online has been a bit of a mission. After several days of searching, learning, editing and rewriting scripts, I have done it!

For the above two images, I have been able to change the opacity of my facade upon a written command. Type "noshade" for the the highest transperancy and "shade" for the lowest transperancy. In real life, making the transperancy of a window lower or tinting it can offer more privacy and offer some sun protection.

The images two images above this time show a lighting script i have used. This is most effective at night in Second Life as during the day the lights on make some surfaces blindingly bright.

To trigger the lights the avatat nearby must type "lighton" and to turn them off "lightoff".

The surrounding light not created by the light under the desk is a light underwater and under the platform. Because my prim count was so high I couldn't build lights suspended from my facade which I intended to do so i created a light underneath my platform which only cost me 1 prim to do the job. The effect looks good and I think its better having surrounding light from below rather then above.

Buidling My Office - Almost Complete

I have finally finished building the furniture to go into my office. The office had used alot of prims due to the framing for the floor and the framing on the glass facade above. The items in my office had to accomodate for my high prim count and was altered to meet the 100 prim limit and not any further.

I had realised that while creating my office in Second Life at home I realised my graphics were at the lowest setting.

This is what my office looked like in its final stages with the graphics at the lowest setting.

And after adding some of my own textures to the office, here it is with the graphics at a higher setting.

A shot of the office during the day rather then sunset to reveal the textures better.

Buidling My Office - Some More

Updates to this blog have been pretty slow recently due to exam week. I haven't had much time to post my progress so I'm going to try and post each stage of my design in a cluster today.

The maximum prim size is 10 by 10 which looked too small as a floor for my office in relation to the roof. Therefore i used 6 triangle prims formed from a tetrahedron to make a hexagonal base larger than 10 by 10.

I have made some framing to support the floor to match the detail of the glass facade on the top of my office. The floor is made from regular polygons and the framing is evenly spaced to kind of break the symmetry between bottom and top. Brunelleschi, like other architects of the Renaissance period in Italy, were considered to also be mathematicians.

Building My Office - Second Attempt

So I have relocated my building site to a ravine in Putahi due to another member buidling too close to my first office. I also wanted my office to cut into the landscape which could be better achieved in this site.

I have created a dome as an influence from my journal "JSAH" as the earliest issue I looked at contained an article on Brunelleschi's domes in the 15th Century.

The web like facade around the dome is inspired by my other journal "Urbanistica" which is a journal on urban planning. The crossing lines are to represent the different sections of land which are seperated by roads and pathways in an urban landscape.

Building My Office - First Attempt

Here is my first attempt at building my office.

The building is still being developed, this is just my first attempt as an exercise to familiarise myself with the building tools on Second Life.

Here is Richard standing next to the panel you have just clicked on.
